Syracuse Service Dog Training
For more than 25 years, Certified Canine Services has been committed to nurturing a safe, healthy, and comforting environment where dogs thrive. Our dedicated approach ensures every dog benefits from a supportive setting that’s ideal for their development into reliable service companions.
WHAT IS A SERVICE DOG?
Service dogs are expertly trained to assist individuals with disabilities, serving as full-time aides who perform crucial tasks and provide medical alerts. Beyond the familiar guide dogs for the visually impaired, these canines cater to a broad spectrum of disabilities, each trained to address specific challenges faced by their handlers.
COULD YOUR DOG BE A PERFECT CANDIDATE?
Considering training your pet as a service dog? It’s crucial that service dogs maintain their training reliably, even in distracting environments. Not all dogs have the temperament suited for service roles. With more than 6,000 successful training sessions, our experienced team can assess whether your dog is a good candidate for service work. Contact us to schedule an evaluation, which may include an overnight stay depending on your dog’s age.
PREPARING YOUR DOG FOR SERVICE ROLE
At Certified Canine Services, our specialized trainers design each program to meet the specific needs of your disability. Each service dog begins with a foundational 4-week obedience training to master basic commands, followed by a 2-week public access training. This phase is crucial for ensuring your dog behaves appropriately in various social settings like theaters, stores, and restaurants.
The training is then tailored to your specific requirements through task training, which may involve skills such as wheelchair assistance, item retrieval, door opening, balance support, or diabetic detection. This phase of the training is customized, varying in length depending on the task complexity and your dog’s learning pace.
